Dear IGALA Graduate Student Members,

IGALA 9 is fast approaching and I am really looking forward to meeting many of you in Hong Kong next week.

As you may know, we are holding two graduate student workshops during the conference. I would like to give you some information about the content of each so you can come prepared with questions and points for discussion.

The first will be run by Tommaso Milani as an FAQ on academic publishing. Participants will be invited to share their experiences of submitting to journals and dealing with peer review letters and editorial decisions. Professor Milani will also deal with the role and function of special issues and how to approach editors with proposals for a special themed collection of articles. So, if any of you have any drafts of proposals for such a collection please bring them along for discussion.

The second will be a panel discussion on entering today's academic job market and will be run by Lia Litosseliti, Holly Cashman, and Agnes Kang. Panelists will share their experiences on their career paths but expect that the discussion will be mainly guided by participants' questions and interests.

In addition, the prize for best graduate student paper will be announced at the conference.

That's all for now and see you in Hong Kong!

Ben Rowlett

Graduate Student Representative IGALA Advisory Council
