Subject: Event: Summer Oral History Teacher Training with Voice of
Witness

Hi all,

Just wanted to pass along some information about Voice of Witness' second
annual teacher training workshop: "Amplifying Unheard Voices: The
Power of the Story." As there has been a lot of discussion of
bringing oral history into middle, high school, and community college
classrooms, I thought this might be of interest to many of you.

Last year's workshop was an incredible success, bringing together high
school and community college teachers together as well as community
cultural workers, to dive into four days of training and discussion
highlighting the power of oral history and personal narrative. We were
joined by teachers from all over the U.S., and would love to invite you
to join us this year!

Our 2012 workshop will take place in San Francisco, CA, from July 16th
through 19th.

During the workshop, participants will:

- Conduct and share an oral history interview
- Explore various media in relation to 'amplifying' oral history
narratives
- Hone transcribing and editing skills
- Read and discuss narratives from the Voice of Witness book series
- Work in small groups to create oral history lesson plans
- Work with members of the Voice of Witness staff and local oral history
educators
