Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea, under the supervision of Dr Mark Busse.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; ">The research project, which is funded by the Royal Society of New Zealand’s Marsden Fund, addresses food security through an anthropological study of the Goroka fresh food market. The goal
of the research is to understand the Goroka market as a set of complex social relations from the perspectives of the diverse participants in it rather than through the application of Western economic models. This will be achieved through long-term anthropological
research in the marketplace and surrounding rural hinterland. Successful applicants will spend 15 to 18 months doing research in Papua New Guinea. The research will involve both team research and individual research projects which together will provide the
basis for individual and joint publications as well as for each student to write a PhD thesis.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
