Having to agree with Tore here. The possibility
of the Guta language, especially in its ancioent,
being the closest t Gothic is great. But first
some comparative linguistic work has to be
done.

Am myself involved in having a translation made
from the bible of several chapters from the bible
from Swedish to tjhe Guta language. It might then
be possible to compare with the same chapters
in Wulfila's bible. A Polish scholar is willing
to research the proximity and provide a written
report. Unfortunately it has not been possible to
find somebody on Gotlan too perform this translation
mainly because of the lack of funds.

The Polish scholar has written several articles comparing
Gothic with different Germanic languages. His view
is that German is the closest. But he failed to take
into consideration that the Swedish of the Svear
of central Sweden has little to do with Swedish. The
correct approach is to compatre with the Guta language,
the dialect spoken on the island of Gotland.

Gothically
