The names Öster- and Västergötland do not appear until the Middle ages as
does the word Skandinavien.

In the Guta Lagh written down about 1220 it says Gutland.

Bartholomaeus Anglicus writes in the beginning of the 13th century "gothlandia"

Plinius calls Gotland "Scadinavia". Tacitus talks about "suionum civitates",

Don't confuse with older Swedish thoughts that Tacitus should have talked
about some Svear. That part of Sweden was under water at that time. That is
only political propaganda from the 15-17th centruries when Sweden needed a
history.
