In Norway there is also supposed to have been a "Saemingr" who is
regarded as mythic/legendary ancestor, son of Odinn etc.
That would give you "Saemingar" as a hypothetical group of
people descended from Saemingr. I don't know if there is any connection
with "Semnones", but it certainly sounds like a possibility.

Franz Rolf Schröder (1941) refers to "semo sancus", which is supposed to
mean "gods of seed", but I don't know if that is related.
