Francisc,

Professor Seebold mentions in Hoops the
Negauer helmet in a Latin formula two
latinised Germanic names are written,
thos you mention. This seems not to
differ much from the mentioning of Germanic
names by Caesar and Strabo.

Seebold also claims that the first "real"
(echt) transfer in the writing of the Germanics
are in runes and begin around 200 AD.

So I think two different things are on line
here. Mentioning of Germanic names
in other languages or alphabets and
runic inscriptions in thw eiting of the
Germanics.

Gothically

Bertil

But I knew that the oldest known attestation of Germanic is the
inscription in Etrusc alphabet "harigasti teiwa" (1st century BC) on a
helmet found in Austria. Or maybe my information is wrong?
