Dear Bertil,
Cannabas or Cannabaudes is only
mentioned by the SHA v.Aureliani XII,
where he is called Gothorum dux and
defeated and killed by Aurelian
together with 5000 of his men. The
SHA are not a very trustworthy source
and the name my be a fabrication,
because "cannabae" means in latin a
soldier´s tavern.
Ariaric and Aoric are mentioned in
Jordanes, Getica, 112, as federates
of Constantine the Great. Wolfram,
Goten, p.71, supposes that Ariaric
was head of the Tervingi and concluded
a foedus with the emperor in 332
A.D., and that Aoric probably was his
son and successor (and the father of
Athanaric).
Kind regards
             Andreas
