Hi Nancy,

the name of modern Hessen is most likely drived from the Germanic
tribe of the  Chatti (Hatten, German first name Hasso), who are
recorded in the same area by Tacitus and who were one of the most
powerful Germanic tribe in the first century AD. Thus the Chatti were
not an East Germanic Tribe like the Goths and you are more likely to
find relevant material about the Chatti on the Germanic-L.
