Jordanes, the author of the Getica, is often seen as some sort of
Gothic champion, who took it upon himself to write the history of his
own people. On the other hand, Jordanes praised Justinianus, endorsed
his campaigns against the Goths and fiercely criticised the 'Gothic
insurrection' under Totila. Thus, from which perspective was Jordanes
writing the Getica? Was he only writing for posterity or was he
conveying contemporary political messages with his Romana (of which
the Getica formed the third part)?

cheers
Dirk
