Again my apologies to Matthew.
Just to inform the listmembers
on this museum dedicated to
the Vandals. The Swedish government
has provided US dollars 800,000
toward the building costs. The info underneath
is from a press release in the fall of
2000. Hoping for an initiative from
Vendsyssel to create a museum there
with the support of the Danish government
on the Vandals. Maybe the Polish government could
provide a similar museum on the Goths
in present day Polish Silesia. And why
not museums on the Goths in Sweden and
Poland? And a museum dedicated to the Gepids
would be a welcome addition.

My next contribution, I promise, will
be exclusively on the Goths.

Gothically

Bertil

The Vandalorum Museum
a Nordic venue for art and design

A ll roads lead to Vaernamo. Vaernamo, a future venue for art.
These are headlines, that could be read in the leading Swedish
daily newspapers on the morning after the presentation of the
blueprints of The Vandalorum Museum in Vaernamo.
At the junction of the E4 and road 27, centrally situated in the
south of Sweden, The Vandalorum Museum will be erected.
The world famous Italian architect, Renzo Piano, the man who
has designed the premises, is enthusiastic about the site. -
The four roads making up the junction lead, in the south to
Copenhagen, in the west to Oslo, in the north to Stockholm
and in the east to Istanbul.

Part of a local farm estate, Noebbele gaard, will be transformed
into a centre for art, into a village consisting of 18 low, red cottages,
typical of this landscape, which will be built in a circle around an
artificial lake. The building material will be logs, cut in the shape
of the renowned Swedish safety match.

The purpose of The Vandalorum Museum is that it shall serve
as an arena for many creative activities. This arena is supposed
to reflect Nordic contemporary art, with particular respect paid to
the collection of local art, owned by Smaalands konstarkiv, but it
shall also allow room for other kinds of art, as music, theatre, film,
form and industry design. It is planned to appeal to all kinds of
people. The premises will be more like an Italian piazza than a
museum. There will be playgrounds for children, outdoor bathing
and pick-nick areas, a restaurant of course - in other words, a
thrilling venue.

The project is administered by The Vandalorum Foundation
