F.X.,

Alans came to the Iberian Peninsula as a seperate people
according to Bernard S. Bachrach, _A History of the Alans
in the West. From Their First Appearance in the Sources
of Classical Antiquity Through the Early Middle Ages_.
Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 1973).

After two years the reached an agreement with the Hispano-
Romans. They became "guests" of the landowners and received
a substantial portion of the income from the estates. Alans settled
in Lusitania and Cartagena.

The Visogothic "allies" of the Romans were asked to subdue
the Alans, who retained their distinctive identity also after
crossing to North Africa with the Vandals.

In the 440s Aetius settled groups of Alans in France.

For the identification problems related to Alans I will return
with a few titles of interest.

Gothically
