Is the use of "loaf" to mean head not likely to be an example of rhyming
slang: "loaf of bread" for head?

To bring the speculations round to Gothic, the related compound word "lady" <
- OE hlafdige has for its second element a word akin to dough, and thus some
relation of Gothic daigs. Not that I could say what the Gothic corresponding to
hlafdige would be, even if the latter is not purely an Anglo-Saxon
development.
