Ingemar said something like that too, but what I' m talking about is while Hermanric is establishing dominance over the Alans and Vandals between the Don and the Volga while most of the the Huns were still east of the Caspian Sea fighting Parthians and Kushans and getting their buts kicked by the Guptas. I think it was more like a refusal to pay the protection for the northern caravans and the implied threat of sending his own enforcers that pissed off Balamber and his boys enough to go west where even if the Goths were tall and using Roman veterans and tactics; at least they didn't have elephants.

Hi James,

from the little sources we have it looks as if Ermaneric was mainly
trying to survive when the Huns arrived, let alone was he trying some
sort of trade embargo against the Huns.
