Are there any Latin experts out there who'd like to comment on this
interesting idea, that the Vandal/Gothic part of De Conviviis
Barbaris only scans right with this reconstructions?

Not knowing much about Latin versifications, it seems to me that the
purely Latin line does make a perfect hexameter. The Vandal line is
improved (mostly) by adding the letters required by the
reconstruction, but still doesn't quite scan.

inter eils goticum scapia matz ia ia drincan

inter hails goticum skapjam matjan jad-drigkan

1. It seems to require that APJ and MATJ and ANJ be regarded as long
(which wouldn't be so bad if it really was matzj-!).
2. The second syllable ER is short when it should be long. Unless a
Germanic /h/ counts as closing the syllable??

I guess the gemination of stops before [j] that we see in modern
Italian was a later development?
