Oh, and lest we forget the obvious, there are actually words
attested for East and West / orient & occident, as nouns:

URRUNS "rising, east, drain/toilet", masculine; the -s is is part of
the root.  With meaning "rising, east" = Gk. ANATOLH (pluralis
tantum, plural-with-singular-meaning, ANATOLAI).  Koebler suggests
an i-stem, perhaps by analogy with the feminine 'urruns' (urruns-
) "exodus, going out, departure"; GARUNS "street, market,
concourse"; or with the masc. RUNS (run-) "flow, course, run" = OE
ryne.

And SAGQ(S) "sinking/setting, west" = Gk. DUSMAI (pluralis tantum).
Only attested dat.sg., so possibly either masc. or neut., but Wright
and Koebler both list as masc., a-stem acc. Koebler.  See Mt 8,11
fram urrunsa jah saggqa "from east and west" (the Gothic words are
both dat.dg. here translating Gk. gen.pl. anatolwn, dusmwn).
