Hails allos thiudos,

As per moderator welcome message suggestion, I am introducing myself.
My name is Ian Ragsdale, and I just graduated this winter from Rice
University with a B.A. in English. I am applying to graduate schools
for IE historical linguistics, with special interest in the Germanic
languages. My mentor in linguistics put me on the traditional path:
Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, a slew of old Germanic languages, and modern
German, French, Spanish, and Swedish.

Gothic is now the first language I have taken up without any classroom
assistance or not under the tutelage of my mentor. Although I am
typically an autodidact with languages, I do miss the synergy and high
stakes of the classroom experience and I hope that my participation in
this listserv can bring a lot of energy to my studies. Gothic has
been a great trip so far and I can only imagine how this listserv will
add to the experience.

Gothic has added an incredible amount to my understanding of the
Germanic languages and the IE peoples, and I look forward to what she
and other languages have in store for me in the future.

I think I'll keep it at that.

Gawairthi,
Ian
