As Fredrik mentioned, the contact could have been between Finns and<br>
Germanic speakers in Scandinavia. The same root is recorded in Old<br>
Icelandic in 'eiða' (a rare synonym for 'móðir' "mother" which occurs<br>
occasionally in poetry) and possibly in 'edda' "great-grandmother"<wbr>.<br>
