QUALIFICATIONS:	

Required: doctorate in Applied Linguistics or related field.
Expertise in second language literacy and in the pedagogy of
developmental reading and writing.  Familiarity with multicultural
K-12 classrooms in the U.S.  Demonstrated potential for continued
scholarly activity.

Tenure Track. Ph.D. in applied linguistics or related field.  ABD
applicants will be considered at the assistant professor rank if
doctorate is completed by August 2001.  Salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience.

Preferred: Demonstrated ability to teach in an institution of higher
education.  Experience teaching in a K-12 setting.  Experience in
program development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The department offers a B.A. and M.A. in Linguistics and an M.A. in
TESOL.  Duties include teaching introductory and advanced courses in
applied linguistics to students in these programs, as well as
developmental reading and writing.  The normal teaching load is four
three-unit courses per semester plus advising and committee work.
Excellence in teaching and continued scholarly, professional activity
will be a requirement for retention and promotion.
