ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPENING

DIVISION OF EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS & INTERDIVISIONAL STUDIES

POSITION:  Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure-track Position in
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
STARTING DATE:  Fall, 2001
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  An earned doctorate or ABD in Applied
Linguistics or a closely related field (from an accredited institution
of higher education) and ESL/EFL teaching experience are required.  The
applicant must have demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a
multi-ethnic, multicultural environment and in culturally and
linguistically diverse settings.  Applicant must have expertise in
second language acquisition theory, teaching methods, sociolinguistics,
and pedagogical grammar.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Expertise in the following two areas is
highly desirable:  second language writing research and practice and
discourse analysis.  K-12 experience, research and publication
experience, and grant writing experience are also desirable.
DUTIES:  Principal duties will include teaching second language theory,
teaching methods, pedagogical grammar, and sociolinguistics in the MA
TESOL Program.  In addition to teaching, the candidate will be expected
to provide program advisement, advise thesis and project students, and
participate in scholarly activity.

SALARY RANGE: Initial salary will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience.  Substantial performance/merit increases may be earned
in subsequent years.

highest degree, and three letters of recommendation.  Employment is
contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
Doctorate is required for tenure.

position, it may be converted to a Full-Time Temporary appointment.
