CALL FOR PAPERS

The 8th Nordic Conference on Bilingualism
November 1-3, 2001, Stockholm Rinkeby

The conference is co-organised by the Centre for Research on
Bilingualism,
Stockholm University, and the Rinkeby Institute of Multilingual
Research,
The City of Stockholm. It will take place in Rinkeby, a multiethnic
suburb
of Stockholm.

Call for papers
Papers are invited either in one of the four main themes (see below) or
in
any area of bilingualism such as simultaneous and successive acquisition
of
two languages, bilingual education, bilingual language processing,
interpretation and translation, and linguistic contact phenomena. In
short,
we wish the conference to reflect the broad range of topics and
approaches
of current bilingual research.

Main themes
1) The Indigenous Minority Languages in the Nordic Countries
2) The New Minority Languages in the Nordic Countries
3) Multilingualism in Urban Settings
4) Multilingualism in Developing Countries

Start: Thursday, November 1, 17.30 (Reception)
End: Saturday, November 3, 17.30

Abstracts and registration
Abstract submission before May 15, 2001.
Abstracts of maximally 500 words should preferably be submitted
electronically.
Early registration before May 15, 2001 (Fee: SEK 1200).
Late registration before August 31, 2001 (Fee: SEK 1500).
Registration should include name, affiliation, regular mail and e-mail
addresses.

Decision on acceptance of papers will be communicated to authors before
June 29, 2001.

The number of conference participants is limited. Therefore,
applications
will be accepted in order of receipt. Conference fee includes reception,
lunch and coffee the two conference days, conference dinner, and the
conference proceedings. The main conference language will be English,
but
papers can also be presented in other languages, in which case the
applicants are kindly requested to contact the organisers.
