The Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America (AILLA,
http://www.ailla.org) seeks applicants for a two-year post-doctoral
position as Project Manager. This position will begin on September 1,
2001; the salary will be $35,000 per year plus benefits.

The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating the
development and maintenance of an online database of audio and textual
language materials and its web interface.  Duties will include:

* assisting in the conceptual development of archive data structures
and tools,
* supervision of digitization of language materials by graduate
research assistants,
* coordinating the acquisition and transfer of materials from
depositors,
* grant writing,
* grant management (accounting and record-keeping),
* handling public relations for the project (in person, online, and
through all other media).

Requirements:

* Ph.D. in Anthropology or Linguistics, with dissertation or
substantial research experience on indigenous languages of the
Americas (preferably Latin America).
* Knowledge of Spanish.
* Experience with HTML and at least one server- or PC-based database
package (e.g Shoebox, Filemaker, Apache).

Preferred Skills:

* Knowledge of Portuguese.
* Familiarity with audio digitization.
* Familiarity with XML.
* Experience with accounting, grant management, and grant application
procedures.
