The Department announces two positions in Spanish Applied Linguistics.
Candidates should indicate whether they wish to be considered for one
or both positions.

[1] Assistant Professor, tenure-track, in Spanish Applied Linguistics
and Director of Spanish Language Program, with specialization in
second language acquisition. The successful candidate must present and
pursue a well-defined research agenda and publication program, and
also be prepared to direct student research. The person appointed must
demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and have some
experience in course supervision, program direction and instructional
technology.  This position involves: providing administrative and
academic oversight as the Director of a professionally-administered,
technology assisted basic language program in Spanish; teaching with a
reduced load at the undergraduate level (in such areas as Foreign
Language Education and Teaching Methodology); and teaching at the
graduate level in the interdisciplinary certificate in Second Language
Acquisition.

[2] Assistant Professor, tenure-track, in Spanish Applied Linguistics
with specialization in second language acquisition, bilingualism, or
closely related field.  We seek a promising scholar with a
demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, and a well-defined
research program that complements existing departmental strengths.
Responsibilities include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate
levels as well as in the interdisciplinary doctoral certificate in
Second Language Acquisition.

For both positions, the successful candidate will participate in the
advising of graduate students as well as in the direction of their
research. Professional-level proficiency in Spanish and English is
required and applicants should hold the Ph.D. by the date of
appointment.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
(entry level salary with Ph. D. completed is $47,000). Starting date:
August 2002.

excellence in teaching (statistical summaries for at least three
