Penn Graduate School of Education
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June & July, 2002

The Institute began in the summer of 1998 as a response to the demands
of Chinese language teachers in the Greater Philadelphia area. Its high
quality and success attracted students nationwide in the following
summers. The institute aims at providing prospective teachers of Chinese
the pedagogical training necessary for obtaining foreign language
teacher certification in their home states. In most states, the
Institute courses meet partial requirements of teacher certification.

Course 1: 	Second Language Acquisition
		June 17-21, 2002
		Instructor: Dr. Fangyuan Yuan, University of
Pennsylvania
Course 2:	Selected Topic in the Teaching of Chinese Language &
			Culture: Approaches and Standards
		June 24-28, 2002
		Instructor: Ms. Wei-ling Wu,  Secondary School Chinese
Language Center, Princeton University
Course 3:	Chinese Applied Linguistics
		June 29-July 3, 2002
		Instructor: Dr. Scott McGinnis, National Foreign
Language Center

Tuition is $950 per course on or before May 31, 2002 and $1000 per
course after May 31.

Each course earns one (1) EDCE continuing education credit (one EDCE
course credit is equivalent to three college units from most other
universities or colleges).
