TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION 

The English & Foreign Languages Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Peninsular Spanish Literature (specialization in Early Modern or Twentieth-Century) to begin Fall 2008. 

The Position: Ideal candidates will be well qualified to teach Spanish Peninsular literature of either the early modern period or the twentieth century, as well as elementary, intermediate and advanced Spanish language and culture.  We seek candidates able to make Peninsular Spanish Literature relevant to our student population of Spanish heritage and multilingual speakers, and who show strong interest in developing a teaching credential program.  The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and service to the university. Faculty generally teach three courses per quarter in a diverse, student-centered academic environment.  After initial interviews at the MLA convention in Chicago or on campus, finalists will be invited to offer a scholarly presentation to the department and to conduct a teaching demonstration. Minimum Qualifications: 
-Ph.D. in Peninsular Spanish Literature (specialization in Early Modern or Twentieth-Century) from an accredited university by July 1, 2008 
-Evidence of effective university teaching experience; please send teaching evaluations if available 
-Evidence of ability to work with and mentor a diverse student population 
-Evidence of scholarly potential (conference presentations, publications, grant development) 

Preferred / Desired Qualifications: 
-Near- native proficiency in both Spanish and English 
-Strong interest in developing a Spanish Teaching Credential Program 
-Familiarity with language assessment and technology-enhanced instruction 
-Interest and ability in obtaining external funding 
-Evidence of interest and ability in obtaining external funding to support teaching and research

-a cover letter that describes the candidate’s teaching and research experience and interests and that addresses the duties and qualifications articulated in the position description; this must include a statement of teaching philosophy within a multicultural environment with examples of past experiences; 
-a curriculum vitae comprised of at least those elements specified on the application form and including the names, titles, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least five individuals who can speak to the candidate’s potential for success in this position; 
-three recent (dated within the past two years) letters of reference; 
-names, addresses and phone numbers of 2 additional references; 
-a completed application form; 
-a transcript showing highest degree earned.
