Single Subject Credential with Master’s Degree
Spanish

The Spanish credential at UC Davis prepares credential candidates for teaching Spanish as a Foreign and heritage language at the middle school and high school levels. Through its coursework offerings and student teaching placements, the program provides candidates with an integral blend of theory and practice.

Candidates complete a coordinated curriculum that includes coursework on the Spanish language, teaching methods of foreign language, and classroom management. All coursework builds on recent research and actual classroom practices. Support in each of these areas comes from course instructors, resident teacher partners, and the Spanish cohort supervisor.

The student teaching placements are a valuable source of practical training for credential candidates. The Spanish supervisor matches candidates with experienced resident teachers during the credential year. Middle and high schools are located in school districts near the University (main school districts include Davis, Sacramento, Woodland, Winters, Dixon, Vacaville and Fairfield). Beginning in mid-August and following the traditional school year, candidates do their student teaching in richly diverse classrooms. They will have the opportunity of observing and teaching classes of Spanish as a foreign language and Spanish for Native speakers. The group of Spanish candidates moves through the full-time program together, developing a strong sense of community and support within the cohort.
