Dear
correspondents - Here is an announcement from Lakota teachers in the
DC area
at this time. (Locally based teacher and radio host Jay Nightwolf
is
also available through Geotrees.) They wanted me to add that their
tipi
is "about to retire," and they're looking for leads to a newer one, 20 -
24
foot. - Thanks, Charles Stevenson,
editor
___________________________

NATIVE AMERICAN TEACHERS
AVAILABLE

Geotrees is pleased to announce that Nathan and Shoshana Omaha,
Lakota
(Sioux) educators, are available to speak to people of all ages in
schools,
congregations, communities, and through other venues throughout
the
national capital area. They can remain here long enough to meet
the
demand.

Nathan and Shoshana are active teachers and organizers
with Native Youth
Alliance which, since 1990, has worked with First Peoples
youth to transmit
the world view, traditions, ceremonies, culture, and
spirituality of native
peoples to future generations. Each November
since 1999 they, their two
children, and Jake the Dog have been keeping vigil
in a tipi on the Mall,
near the Washington Monument, as part of Native
American Heritage Month.

Nathan and Shoshana are available to share this
knowledge with young and
old throughout the area. They can share
learning with you in many forms:
Historical knowledge, philosophy, ceremony,
dance, stories and myths,
healing, and more; in talks, workshops, classes,
performance, and
demonstrations, often with learner participation. And
the tipi itself is
not just a simple tent, but a ceremonial centering-space
in its own right -
and they can share this knowledge as well, inviting your
participation in
the rituals of erecting, using, and taking down a tipi on
your ground.
Learning with Nathan and Shoshana will give you and your people
real
knowledge that you didn't have at the session's beginning, knowledge
of
cultures that dwell in our midst to this day.

For a detailed
overview and history of Native Youth Alliance, please visit
their website at:
