<BR><B>exciting opportunity to be involved in a national conference!</B>
<BR><BR><B>AAAL (American Association for Applied Linguistics) 2003 will be
held at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Virginia (in Crystal City, 5
minutes away from Reagan National Airport), March 22-25, 2003.</B>
<BR><BR><B>What you give:</B> <B>
<UL>
<LI>4 hours</B> (one shift) on an assigned duty. Duties primarily include
working at the registration desk, stuffing conference packets, helping
presenters and exhibitors set up their equipment, assisting with office
back-up, AV set-up, sign production and set-up. </LI></UL><B>What you get:</B>
<UL>
<LI>Student volunteers get <B>free registration</B> (student registration is
normally $65).
<LI>Volunteers willing to work more than one shift (4 hours) will be
assigned to the publishers' exhibits (on a first come first served basis)
and may receive <B>free books</B> unsold at the end of the conference. Last
year's exhibitors included John Benjamins, Sage, Oxford University Press,
Cambridge University Press, Longman, and Multilingual Matters.
<LI>You get to attend a national conference for free and have a chance to
<B>meet and network with researchers, educators, and other graduate students
from across the country.</B> </LI></UL><B>What you do now:</B>

<LI>Fill out the volunteer information sheet found on AAAL's website (<A
href="http://www.aaal.org/aaal2003/">http://www.aaal.org/aaal2003/</A>).
Click on "Be a AAAL 2003 Conference Volunteer!" and it will take you to the
Volunteer Information Sheet. Print out the form, fill it out, and send it to
Professor Sarah Shin, local co-chair for AAAL 2003, at the address below by
January 31, 2003.
<LI>If you have a preferred time, choose from among 10 different shifts.
<LI>You will receive a shift assignment by February 10th. </LI></UL>We need
about 100 volunteers to make this conference run smoothly. Please do consider
