* *** ****Vous en trouverez la présentation ci-dessous et en pièce jointe.* *En ce qui concerne vos propositions et les renseignements complémentaires, vous trouverez les informations utiles auprès du directeur de la collection (Series Editor).* * Bien à vous* * Robert Nicolaï* *Scope of the series ‘**Language Contact and Dynamics of Language’**:* * *This new peer-reviewed book series focuses on the study of language contact, language use and language change in accordance with a view of language contact whereby both empirical data (the precise description of languages and how they are used) and the resulting theoretical elaborations (hence the statement and analysis of new problems) become the primary engines for advancing our understanding of the nature of language and the dynamics of language change. This involves linguistic, anthropological, sociological, historical, and cognitive factors, but also a potentially critical approach to the methods used for the study of the phenomena. Such an approach makes a major new contribution to the understanding of language change and the dynamics of language at a time when there is a notable increase in interest and activity in this field and where a continual reshaping of theoretical approaches is apparent. This implies particular attention to the epistemological frameworks that reshape the requirements for knowledge in this field. The series will publish monographs as well as edited volumes and conference proceedings centered around a coherent theme. *Series Editor *: **** Robert Nicolaï *Editorial Board *: **** Umberto Ansaldo (The University of Hong Kong)**** Peter Auer (University of Freiburg)**** Marianne Mithun (University of California, Santa Barbara)**** Patrick Seriot (Université de Lausanne)**** Andrée Tabouret-Keller (Université de Strasbourg) *Series description* : . The Series will primarily comprise single topic monographs and edited volumes of previously unpublished material. Other types of work may also be accepted for publication in the Series if agreed upon by both the Series Editor and the Publisher. **** . Typescripts for Volumes in the Series shall yield minimally approximately 250 printed pages or comprising approximately 85,000 words and/or space in diagrams, formulae, tables, and/or black and white illustrations. *FYI.* *Forthcoming* (2014) : *Limits of contact, contact at its limits. Questioning language contact as ‘phenomenon’, ‘concept’ and ‘construction’.* *Topic** :* The *study of language contact *has become a popular topic in present linguistic research and is thus considered today as a worthwhile scientific interest. But how to continue for those who have been studying this topic for long and how to avoid the negative consequences of mainstreamed research? The purpose here shall be to critically review the development of this issue at distance by focusing on the following points:**** 1. *What can we learn in general from the study of language contact *for our knowledge of languages, their dynamics and their functions (systemic elaborations, language practices, semiotic developments)?**** 2. *How should linguistic theory incorporate *the empirical findings of language contact studies and the underlying postulates of existing models be altered (in our analysis’s choices and epistemic frameworks),**** 3. *Is the metaphorical concept of “contact” *including all its potential readings and extensions sustainable and operational (in the same way as ‘border’, ‘frontier’, ‘disruption, ‘divide’ ...),**** 4. *Which role does language contact play or has it played *for the history of linguistic research and academic life, in which way has this idea been influential to individual researches and their approaches. *Provisional Summary (*in alphabetical order)*.* *Introduction.* *Part 1. Language Contact and Dynamics of Language ? (FYI) To: LCDL at unice.fr * **Creation of a Book Series ? Language Contact and Dynamics of Language ?, published by Brill.* Dear all,**** I?m happy to inform you of the on-going creation of a new peer-reviewed book series intitled ?*Language Contact and Dynamics of Language?*, published by *Brill.***** This Collection will allow the expansion of the theme of *Journal of Language Contact*, and also, it will accept works that introduce a critical thinking about the general problem of contact between languages.**** See presentation (below and file attached). For proposals and additional information, please contact the Series Editor.**** Best wishes,**** Robert Nicola? * *** ****Vous en trouverez la pr?sentation ci-dessous et en pi?ce jointe.* *En ce qui concerne vos propositions et les renseignements compl?mentaires, vous trouverez les informations utiles aupr?s du directeur de la collection (Series Editor).* * Bien ? vous* * Robert Nicola?* *Scope of the series ?**Language Contact and Dynamics of Language?**:* * *This new peer-reviewed book series focuses on the study of language contact, language use and language change in accordance with a view of language contact whereby both empirical data (the precise description of languages and how they are used) and the resulting theoretical elaborations (hence the statement and analysis of new problems) become the primary engines for advancing our understanding of the nature of language and the dynamics of language change. *Series Editor *: **** Robert Nicola? *Editorial Board *: **** Umberto Ansaldo (The University of Hong Kong)**** Peter Auer (University of Freiburg)**** Marianne Mithun (University of California, Santa Barbara)**** Patrick Seriot (Universit? de Lausanne)**** Andr?e Tabouret-Keller (Universit? de Strasbourg) *Series description* : . Questioning language contact as ?phenomenon?, ?concept? and ?construction?.* *Topic** :* The *study of language contact *has become a popular topic in present linguistic research and is thus considered today as a worthwhile scientific interest. *How should linguistic theory incorporate *the empirical findings of language contact studies and the underlying postulates of existing models be altered (in our analysis?s choices and epistemic frameworks),**** 3. *Is the metaphorical concept of ?contact? *including all its potential readings and extensions sustainable and operational (in the same way as ?border?, ?frontier?, ?disruption, ?divide? ...),**** 4. *Which role does language contact play or has it played *for the history of linguistic research and academic life, in which way has this idea been influential to individual researches and their approaches. *Provisional Summary (*in alphabetical order)*.* *Introduction.* *Part 1.
