Second Call for Papers: The 4th Annual Workshop on Immigrant Languages in the Americas will take place at the University of Iceland on Sept. 19-21, 2013. Keynote Speaker is Maria Polinsky, Professor of Linguistics, Director of the Language Science Lab, Harvard University. The workshop is organized by The Vigd?s Finnbogad?ttir Institute of Foreign Languages and The Centre for Research in the Humanities at the University of Iceland. We invite abstracts for 30-minute presentations on any aspect of the linguistics of heritage languages in the Americas (e.g., structural, generative, historical, sociolinguistic, or experimental). Abstracts can be a maximum of two pages in length (including diagrams, charts, and references), and should be sent anonymously to this email address: heritagelanguages at hi.is The submission deadline is May 31, 2013. February 2014 in Zurich. The event is meant to enable exchange and collaboration among young scholars in the field of historical Germanic linguistics and to provide them with an opportunity to present their projects to an international audience. We invite 20 minute talks to be presented in an informal roundtable discussion. Talks should deal with the earliest Germanic languages and preferably follow a comparative approach. The following three thematic sections are scheduled: 1. Historical Grammar (Phonology and Morphology), 2. Lexicon and Onomastics, 3. Text Transmission and Graphemics. Talks may be held in either German or English. Hans Frede Nielsen (University of Southern Denmark), Antje Casaretto (Universit?t zu K?ln) and Wolfgang Beck (Friedrich-Schiller-Universit?t Jena) have agreed to moderate the discussions as Senior Researchers.
