square brackets in Word

Dear Listers,

I'm teaching my first course on intro to HPSG and I'm having lots of
problems getting my square brackets straight (pun intended ;) in Word
'97. The best I could come up with is using the square bracket
characters from the Symbol font, but these are too short to link
nicely with those above/below, which always results in broken lines
which look rather ugly.

Obviously, I am aware of a perfect solution to this, which is
abandoning M$ products for something real, but for the time being I
am bound by compatibility issues and simply have to use Word for
this. So I thought that at least some of you must know how to deal
with this problem easily and would be willing to share.

I promise to post a summary if there is interest.

Thanks in advance,

Piotr
