English verbs selecting Bare forms

Hi Larry---

OK, but NB

(i) there is a serious discrepancy between auxiliary `need' on the one hand
and `dare' on the other, given that

(1) *Anyone who need talk to me this week is out of luck

and similar exx. with `need' are just bad, and

(ii) if the `dare' in `Anyone who would dare do that...' really is auxiliary
`dare', then this `dare' can't be a modal, right? I don't accept double
modal (might could) constructions, but `would dare do that' as in this
class of examples is fine with me.
