Folks,

Returning to Tibor's ironic note that started this whole fascinating
thread (at least I THINK it was ironic -- wasn't it, Tibor?), am
I the only person who was mystified by the assertion:

  "The proposal bears interesting similarities to proposals within the
   G/HPSG tradition ... which treat a wide variety of syntactic
   relations as the result of extremely local feature movement."

What is a single instance of a syntactic relation (what IS a syntactic
relation?) that is treated within the G/HPSG tradition as `the
result of extremely local feature movement'? What do you think
this is supposed to mean?
