There's an interesting paper by Geoff Pullum and Barbara Scholz attacking
the empirical basis of the claim that the data children need to
induce the relevance of the matrix auxiliary for purposes of
subject-auxliary inversion is unavailable from experience and therefore
must correspond to innate knowledge. I think it's available from
Geoff's UCSC homepage.
