Passive voice in construction-style HPSG

Hi,

My last mail was incomplete. What you are probably looking for is
contained in Jean-Pierre Koenig's book on "Lexical Relations". In
Chapter 3, he does active/passive by inheritance and automatic type
computation. I guess this is pretty similar to the Kay/Fillmore approach.

What I wrote in the last mail remains true: One cannot extend valence
lists by inheritance (without defaults). Jean-Pierre Koenig solves the
problem by using several lists and mappings (for instance ARG-ST ->
SUBJ/COMPS). In this approach, one needs one auxiliary list per valence
extending type, if there is interaction with other valence extending types.

Since Jean-Pierre Koenig uses unary branching Constructions for
inflection and derivation, I stored him under "Lexical Rules"^1 in my
brain. I forgot the linking types.

I am sorry about that.

Best wishes

	Stefan

1) see for instance Meurers, 2001 for lexical rules as unary branching
rules:
