The Norwegian University of Science and Technology

applications for

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS

1 year position with a possible 1 year extension.

A temporary position as Assistant Professor in computational linguistics is 
available in the Department of Language and Communication Studies (ISK) in 
the Faculty of Arts at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology 
(NTNU). The position is available for one year, starting January 1, 2006, 
with a possibility of being extended for 2007. The position comprises 
teaching as well as research and development. Teaching will be at 
elementary (bachelor) and advanced (master) levels. Possible areas of 
research and development will include lexicon building, ontologies, 
tagging, grammar engineering, parsing, generation, summarization, question 
answering, information extraction and text mining, machine learning of 
natural language, machine translation and NLP system evaluation. The 
applicant must document expertise in one or more parts of the discipline, 
and be actively engaged in research and development. Relevant teaching 
experience must be documented.

Each applicant for the position must send 4 copies of the application along 
with certified copies of certificates, testimonials and a list of academic 
work, and 2 sets of their:
Academic work - published or unpublished - that has relevance to the 
evaluation of the applicant's qualifications by the evaluation committee 
(not more than 10 such submissions).
A description of all the academic work that the applicant feels is most 
significant and that he/she feels the evaluation committee should pay 
particular attention to.
A list of all publications with bibliographical references.

The appointment will be made in accordance with the regulations in force 
concerning State Employees and Civil Servants.
The position is remunerated according to salary levels 43 to 67 on the 
Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary from NOK 312 100 to NOK 479 
800 a year.
