Tilde

With or without the (very nice) url package, the tilde looks better when
it is actually taken from the same font as the rest of the URL.  If the
URL is typeset in the Computer Modern Typewriter font, then the tilde
is available not in the (default) OT1 font encoding but the (newer) T1
font encoding.  So, the following command in the preamble may improve
the tilde:

    \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

If the rest of the document looks worse with this command, it may help
to install CM-Super.
