[HPSG-L] Lectureship in syntax

The Department of Language and Linguistics at Essex is seeking to appoint a permanent full-time Lecturer in Syntax. A secondary expertise in semantics will be an added advantage.
The appointed candidate should have expertise in at least one contemporary syntactic theory with a strong commitment to theoretically motivated syntactic description, reflecting a sound understanding of both descriptive and formal approaches to syntax. An ability to work in more than one syntactic approach is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Syntax and will have a record of good publications and demonstrable continued ability to publish in internationally highly-ranked journals with a clear commitment to the acquisition of research funding to support the development of their research. The applicant should have the ability to offer a transformative education to students for which experience in teaching syntax using different approaches at the undergraduate and graduate level is highly desirable. The ability to supervise both undergraduate projects and MA dissertations outside the immediate area of expertise will be important in this role.

Candidates should show a commitment to developing cross-disciplinary research and projects in the wider linguistic expertise of the department which covers sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and applied linguistics. The department is keen appointment a candidate who will contribute to the diversity and collegiality of the department.
