Dear all,
As you well know, Ivan Sag worked on aspects of the auxiliary system
of English throughout his career in linguistics, culminating in his
Sapir Lecture at the LSA Linguistic Institute University of Colorado,
Boulder July 19, 2011. However, he left a version of this
comprehensive overview "Lessons from the English auxiliary system"
unfinished in September 2013, which had been originally submitted to
the Journal of Linguistics. That ms is still listed as "temporarily
unavailable" in this personal website at
http://lingo.stanford.edu/sag/publications.html. His wish was that it
should be finished and published as a co-authored article. The task of
completion took over two years and proved remarkably complex, but the
paper is now accepted and scheduled to appear in print in volume 56
(2020) of that same journal. For those with Journal of Linguistics
access, the paper is already available online in FirstView at the
following url.

I take the opportunity to publicly thank everyone who contributed to
this task (co-authors or otherwise), including the Journal of
Linguistics Editor, Bob Borsley, and three anonymous reviewers. Last,
but not least, many thanks to Penny Eckert for granting us this
opportunity.

The corresponding BibTeX entry show below will be added to

and the page numbers are determined.
