Since its outbreak in late December 2019, COVID-19 has wreaked havoc across the world and in every critical sector of society, including education. This special issue of RILA will particularly focus on the impact of the pandemic on language teaching, and the
challenges educators have faced in order to ensure the quality of learning.
Description
Inspired by the insightful contributions of the scholars who participated in the first International ELT Conference
New Trends in English Language Teaching, Learning and Education held in Procida in September 2022, this special issue of RILA is intended to act as the leading forum for the presentation of new advances in English Language Teaching (ELT), with a special
focus on the broader field of language education and the challenges of post-pandemic times. Contributions are therefore expected to address the complexities of this linguistic landscape in which traditional notions of education are replaced with more innovative
ways of thinking and learning.
Adding to the background of critical conditions created by the pandemic is the massive digitalization of teaching and learning processes, which is perhaps one of the most currently relevant and transformative revolutions with an equally undeniable impact on
language education. Indeed, undertaking an impressively swift and nearly totalizing digital transformation has put educational institutions to the test in their relentless effort to enhance pedagogical processes. Along with the many benefits that digitalization
affords, this educational endeavor is often faced with less rewarding challenges, especially during critical times in which tackling poor digital literacy skills, social isolation, and lack of guidance provision become not only more manifest but also more
impactful.
Following this brief premise, the overall aim of this special issue is to provide a space for scholars to disseminate innovative research regarding the provision of language education in diverse contexts, and raise awareness on how language phenomena shape
the way we learn, teach and acquire knowledge, particularly during a time of crisis.
Possible areas of inquiry may include, but are not limited to:
- technology integration
- alternative ways of teaching in higher education learning environments
- multilingualism and varieties of the English language
- innovations in education raising/furthering technological literacy
- educational games as a learning approach
- e-learning initiatives and the use of digital content
- adaptation to & use of new technologies for hybrid classroom environments
- social networks, smartphones & mobile apps in the education of English
- online classrooms & e-management of the learning process
- simulation & animation in ELT
- blended learning & advanced classroom technologies
- online/virtual labs for the development of learning skills
- online assessment: e-tests & the changing landscape of assessing language skills
- e-tutoring & virtual learning management systems
- educational multimedia, animation & 3D applications
- corpus linguistics and language teaching

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Sincerely,
Giuseppe Balirano
