Participles and the General Valency Hypotheses

Dear colleagues,

Just a short reaction since I am currently preoccupied with other linguistic 
problems:

(1) As a heutistic point: Assume that the General Valency Hypothesis is 
correct, whatever your solution.

(2) Lieb's morphosyntactic structures (1983) were not meant to be used for 
solving participle problems; I still find Monika Budde's proposal strange. (I 
must think about it more.)

(3) I consider as incorrect the suggestion that participles in German have no 
independent use outside analytic verb forms, where, it is assumed by Monika 
Budde, only deverbal adjectives occur.  Consider:

(i)  Immer wieder aufgelegt, wurde der Roman ein großer Erfolg.
                  H  H  H    H  T  T

(ii) ? Sehr inhaltsreich, wurde der Roman ein großer Erfolg.

(iii) Da sehr inhaltsreich, wurde der Roman ein großer Erfolg.

(iv) ? Da immer wieder aufgelegt, wurde der Roman ein großer Erfolg.    
 	
So-called  Partizipialsätze in German should, it turns out, be analysed as 
Verb Groups after all, not as Noun Groups with an adjectival nucleus.
