How to Design, Implement and Operate
a Tribal Language Immersion Learning Center

The Seminar will be held in Browning, Montana, located on the Blackfeet
Indian Reservation.

For community tribal language revitalization advocates, practitioners, and
interested community leaders wishing to develop and implement effective tribal
language community learning centers to benefit their children, and community.

The 3 day seminar will be held at the Nizipuhwahsin (Original Language)
School campus in Browning, Montana. The school campus is the home of one of the
finest and progressive tribal language programs in the nation. Founded in l987,
the Piegan Institute has developed an extraordinary array of information,
experience and logistical planning in the tribal language immersion school format.

The seminar will cover in-depth the designing, implementation and operation
of a tribal language immersion school program. Designed to assist all language
advocates from the beginner level to those with advanced experience, the
seminars provide an unique opportunity to study the immersion school format on-site
of a successful school campus.

The seminar are offered 4 times a year on campus of the Nizipuhwahsin (Real
Speak) School. The school was designed, constructed and has been in operation
since 1994. It is a modern design based on community and language
revitalization needs.

Seminar Leaders are:

Darrell R Kipp, Director of the Piegan Institute.
Mr. Kipp has extensive experience in researching, designing and implementing
tribal language revitalization efforts. He, along with other Piegan Institute
staff, have worked with over 60 tribal communities over the past 15 years in
nationally based revitalization efforts and programs.

Dr. Dorothy Still Smoking, co/founder of the Piegan Institute.
Dr. Still Smoking is a leading expert on early childhood developmental
education and tribal language development. In l994 she was selected as the National
Head Start Director of the Year for her exceptional leadership with the
Blackfeet Tribe Head Start Programs for 10 years.

The Seminars will be held in Browning, Montana, located on the Blackfeet
Indian Reservation. The dates of the seminars are > July 7-8-9, 2003

Registration Fee is $300.00/person.

Browning, Montana is located adjacent to Glacier National Park, and is the
home of the North American Indian Days Celebration. Lodging is available in
Browning, or in nearby communities located next to Glacier National Park. The town
is located 125 miles by I-15 interstate from Great Falls Montana airport, and
90 miles from Kalispel, Montana airport.

Glacier Peaks Bingo and Casino in Browning, Montana
Glacier National Park with all forms of outdoor recreation
A 9 hole golf course nestled in the pines in East Glacier.
