My Culture My Language
Wednesday 31 August 2005

In 1999 the federal government withdrew support for bilingual education
in Aboriginal communities throughout the Northern Territory. Today only
ten community schools provide this unique style of education that
attempts to maintain language and culture. Yirrkala, a community where
the Homeland and Land Rights movements began, is one of the places
where a bilingual program is still maintained.
