Just to add further...

i just found on the internet an interesting new type of protective cover
for CDs & DVDs that might be useful.  these are called Protective Disk
Skins.

they allow you to add a protective barrier to your CD or DVD disks to
prevent scratches while at the same time it allows you use it as you
normally would in everyday use.

very interesting...i think i'll give a try.
