Most of the Tsou tribe is concentrated in Chiayi County in the beautiful Alishan
National Scenic Area and in Kaohsiung County along the spectacular Southern
Cross-Island Highway. The Tsou of Alishan and Kaohsiung are divided into two
distinct groups, referred to as the northern and southern Tsou, respectively.
There are large differences between these two groups in terms of language and
customs. According to Council of Indigenous Peoples statistics, the population
of the entire tribe is approximately 6,200.
