Feds 'force' NT to cut local languages

THE Territory Government was forced to cut teaching hours in indigenous
languages because of the coming national curriculum, the Education Minister
said yesterday.

Marion Scrymgour flew to Maningrida on Friday to meet community members angry at
the decision to conduct all teaching in English for the first four hours of each
school day.
