For Nigerian indigenous languages to be preserved and saved from total
extinction, there is an imperative need for the government at all
levels to encourage the production of indigenous language films
reports, Benjamin Njoku.

This was the observation of over 300 film makers, scriptwriters,
directors, stakeholders and industry operators who gathered in Akure,
Ondo State capital last week, for this year’s edition of the annual,
Behind the Screen festival of indigenous languages, now known as,
Festival of Indigenous African Language Films.

The festival, which held between October 3 and October 9, at Owena
International Hotels, Akure saw the participants drawn from different
parts of the country urging the government at all levels to consider
the option of giving Nigeria’s indigenous language films a boost as a
way of preserving such languages as well as saving them from total
extinction as presently being threatened by global statistics.
