New encyclopedia of Tlingit language baffles Sitka elders

An amateur scholar of indigenous languages showed up in Sitka last
month with her new encyclopedia of Tlingit and an accompanying audio
CD of readings, but local Tlingits say her Tlingit doesn't resemble
the language they grew up speaking. KCAW radio reports that Sally-Anne
Lambert, a New Zealander who grew up in Samoa and developed an
affinity for languages, admits she researched and published her
encyclopedia without input from modern Tlingit speakers.
