Whispers of forbidden tongues

PEOPLE from 52 language groups live in the central Queensland
Aboriginal community of Woorabinda, but most of these are silenced.
I'm told "there's a lady who lives over there, she knows some
language". I can visit her and ask her to excavate some words from her
memory.

A 90-year-old man tells me he spoke his language with his mother, who
died in 1944 but has had no one to speak it with since then.
