Indigenous Mapping Workshop in Canada

The Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs, the Firelight Group, Google,
and the University of Victoria welcomed more than 100 mappers from over 40
First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities to Victoria, August 25-28, for a
4-day Indigenous Mapping Workshop <http://imwcanada.earthoutreach.org/>.
This was the second such event held during the past year, following the
Indigenous Mapping Workshop hosted last December by the University of
Arizona in Tucson (see here <http://ua.earthoutreach.org/>). Read on for a

Over the course of the workshop, participants shared insights and
innovations from their own community mapping projects and learned how
Google mapping technologies can support the mapping of cultural and natural
resources for better informed decision-making with regard to indigenous
lands.

The workshop also received a good deal of press coverage in British
